What's the difference between working the Front Gate and Greeting? Can someone enlighten me?

I'd guess it's the same as any Burn:

Gating is where you dress is civilian attire, check for tickets, then let the folks in.

Greeting is where you're in Burnerwear, tease noobies, demand bribes, check for proper camping gear, booze it up.

Only because you beg us, and won't pass until we spank you just to keep the line moving.

All this is true, however, it is also a duty of greeters to explain guidelines of Deer Fields and Transformus and make sure that Virgins as well as returnees know where to go, educate about LNT, Moop, and volunteering.

I will say, that greeting is a fun job and a great way to meet people. I greeted last year on Friday.

That being said, there are many other Volunteer Jobs/Shifts that are very important that may not seem as "glamorous" or as "fun" but can be anything you make out of it. Transformus always needs Rangers, Sanctuary Volunteers, Medics, etc. They are always understaffed and it is truly a job that demands respect.

Then, somewhere in between lies Jobs like, PARKING! I am co-lead for Parking this year and would love to have some enthusiastic volunteers like yourself on my team. It's a no-brainer, if that's what you're looking for but it's also a job that needs more volunteers. When I was volunteering for Greeters' Station last year, there was a period when Parking was desperately recruiting help, and the greeters' station was full. No one wanted to go. Myself, and another cute little chick were the only 2 that stood up and said, we've never done it before, but sure, we'll do it, just show us the way. Hours later, I had met so many people and talked to so many personally as they were unpacking their belongings out of their cars and waiting for shuttles. It was a great experience, and I encourage all to try something new, you have neve done before....

I sure am, I've never been a Team Lead! Here we go!

I know what a parking badger does and don't think I'm quite the gal for it. But I heartily admire those who do- Sparrow really stands out in my mind as the Kick Ass Queen of Parking.

Parking badgers? What do they do?

Yell at people to move their cars?

Greeting's great. I greeted at my first burn, and people kept asking me to spank them. I was very unprepared.

In the case of Sparrow, I believe the quote was, "Does that truck have balls, or is it just pretty?"

It's all in what you make it. Just thought I'd let people know.

BTW, Sparrow hasn't volunteered for Parking, maybe you can pass it on..

And, in Satellite Parking, there's no yelling, just point and smile! :)

This was the best first time volunteer job for my first Transformus in 2006. I came knowing nobody, arriving solo and camped with the sweaty virgins camp. I set up a bar and opened Saturday after the burn and again Sunday morning at daybreak serving Tequilla Completo's (mexican bloody mary's). I arrived in the noon storm on Friday and had to carry my stuff (6 trips) to sweaty virgins camp across from firekeepers in Valhalla. (no shuttle service yet and soaking wet and tired... )

Just a few hours helping people unload all the way out at the owl gate and up the hill/road that ran up from the gate to the right as you came in the gate from the hardball. That let me experience what being helpful and doing a not glamorous but important job can really do to make your Transformus experience so rewarding. I was so wishing this shuttle system was already running when I arrived, but the fact that I could help someone have a better experience than I did earlier put the snap in my flogger ... so to speak .

Getting folks loaded onto shuttles with their stuff, giving them the heads up and asking if they had necessities, understood LNT?, explained lingo to virgins and just had a great time keeping people company and helping them park their cars. No hard work just hanging out and helping people. Helping them to avoid parking over hornets nests, sometimes helping them move after parking on a hornets nest.

After that, everywhere I walked people recognized me, It rocked! I was met with smiles all weekend from people who met me as one of the the first Mysterians they had contact with and I felt like a full-on ambassador to the city. These people - All new comers meet when being welcomed into our city can really make the whole event for them.

Help people safely park their car and be a hero too!

Maybe I can do parking then. I dunno, I'm required to be really sharp for my job, so when I'm not working, my brain goes on vacation. Does that make any sense? ;)

Parking badger does require some spatial awareness, but generally it's just lining folks up in a field, along a road or reminding people to get the unloaded vehicle out of their camp and safely up to the parking area.

There can be some physical work if you want to help people unload or load their stuff on the shuttle when the vehicle activity slows down.
Also there is a captive audience since they can't go anywhere for a little while, bwwwhhahaha.

Exactly! Last year, I basically got to hang out with so many people while they were graciously awaiting the shuttle(s.) Some even gave me gifts for talking to them and making sure they were comfortable and having a good time. I wanted people to know that they had finally arrived and it was time to kick back and enjoy themselves (even if they were still in the parking lot.) This year, things should run smoother too, because all the parking wil be in Satellite Parking instead of being spread all over the place (hopefully no hornet nests this year.) I can say, the Volunteers I've gotten so far are great folks and I would want to volunteer to work with them (some hotties too!) It's important to remind people that the Parking Lot is a great place to "Meet n Greet!" While waiting for a shuttle, or helping one another onto shuttles is a good time to compress, make some new friends and get ready for the grand entrance into Mysteria.

Thanks Unga Bunga for your input! Couldn't have said it better.
