Work Play was amazing fun. John Jay said that we got more work done this year than in any previous year's W/P. We replaced the Lake Stage Flooring nailing in the boards faster than a pneumatic nailer could. We cleared trails, burned brush, ate bacon, and built our community [Drink!] And those who came from miles away got to have a clear and open discussion with the BOD.
I am not going to try to relate the full text of the town meeting, but there are a few points that I felt needed to be stated on the Transformus Tribe. I am not speaking for the BOD, I am merely relating the important points from the town meeting at W/P that you didn't come to. My comments, and feelings are in (parentheses).
1: The Website will be back up as soon as the Web team can. They are shooting for before next week to have the Invites able to be paid for.
2: The BOD needs your contact info. When the Website comes back up, they will have instructions for contacting them with your contact info so that you can get your BRAND SPANKING NEW INVITE CODES.
3: Everybody needs to ***__FUCKING VOLUNTEER ___*** !!!!!! (emphasis mine. Yes this means you, even if you are involved in a theme camp. If you don't volunteer, you don't have an event to bring your SHINY FUCKING CAMP TO!) If the key teams are filled, more invites may become available.
4: There will be another round of invites. There will be invites that are not paid for, and they will become part of the second round of invites. You might still get invites. Even if you don't currently have one. (As has been stated on this Tribe repeatedly, there are always invites available closer to the event. For instance, last year, over 1500 invites were sold, only 1362 armbands were distributed. This means that if you plan to come to the mountain, when a tourist forgets to ask for time off from work, you can come.)
And some personal notes:
There is more information available on the Transformus email list if you are interested.
A great big hug and shout out to Unga - Bunga, who actually came to W/P, put in his work, and asked his questions of the BOD face to face.
Another enormous hug to Waterfall, who stood up and told us what happened inside the Web Team.
And lastly, a great big hug to everyone at W/P, especially the BOD, who really told us the answers to all the questions we asked.
See You on the Mountain!

Re: News from Work/Play
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 9:39 AMYou know, as a T-fus newbie I'd always planned to be at the W/P, but partly because of the negativity I'd read in places here and on the list, I almost (almost!) talked myself out of it. I wonder if anyone else did?
I'm so glad I came and worked and played and got to meet so many, many wonderful people. I wasn't sure about Transformus before (I guess I'm a skeptic at heart) wondering if it was a Burn or just a Burn imitation that got the externals right but missed the spirit.
My doubts are erased. I know people, and I know good from bad. This is good. I'm proud to be a part of it, volunteer, and contribute. -

Re: News from Work/Play
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 6:27 PMI'm a T-fus newbie as well...the negativity was surprisingly and unexpected, but ultimately I decided to ignore it. I have to say any small doubts were erased when I arrived, I found all the people I met to be awesome, fun and hard workers. My biggest regret of the weekend was spending Saturday vomiting instead of working, stupid stomach flu. It wasn't over-imbibing surprisingly, my husband and classmates were yakking all weekend as well. except they had fancy porcelin toilets instead of trash barrels and porta potties :)
Anyway yay! Even more excited than I was before for this!

My comments
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 4:14 PM1. There is a web TEAM? As in more than one person? Its taking multiple people over a month to write this? Multiple man-months? Wow. It better be impressive when its done!
2. I cant state this strongly enough. If they don't have our contact info, how on earth could they verify that we didn't enter the lottery more than once? FRAUD!!!!!! CHEATING!!!!!!! NOT FAIR! Can I emphasize this more somehow? FRAUD! Why does nobody else care about this? This is a huge totally undetectable back door. Why do they continue to use compromised data when this has been pointed out already? Nobody seems to care about this at all. Why not?
3. I'll just quote this one:
"Everybody needs to VOLUNTEER If the key teams are filled, more invites may become available."
I hope this puts an end to the multiple people telling me I'm full of shit whenever I point this out. Just like they did when I said this FIRST THING when I found out about this fiasco.
4. We already knew that.
This whole process is so fucked up. Why did they do this? I still haven't got a clue. Is this trouble really worth it? Did anyone ask WHY? You'd think that would come up at some point right? Look at this shit-storm. And the event hasnt even started yet. Imagine the chaos to come. WHY? For what purpose? Shouldn't someone either have to admit its fucked up, or justify it as having benefits that outweigh these obvious risks?
Whats up with the 150 reserved tickets? Who is blessed with them and who isnt? What priest decides who to bless?
I wish I could have been there. :( oh well.
"See You on the Mountain!"
Oh, thanks, rub it in why dont ya? -

Re: My comments
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 5:52 AMSo this is my understanding of the 150 invites. We ALWAYS LACK VITAL VOLUNTEERS. ALWAYS!!! There are never enough volunteers to fill Ranger, Medic, etc. shifts at this event. NEVER!!! So these tickets are being held to insure we have tickets for Rangers and such from other events so they can come bale us out AGAIN!!! Guess how we keep this from happening next…. VOLUNTEER!!!!!!
If you don’t like this set up thank your friends who worked no shifts last year, or the year before that, or the year before that, or the year before that. Arts great, theme camps are awesome, but they don’t keep us from needing volunteers.

Thanks for everyone for coming out and sharing the experience, the gifts, and the LOVE!
