I'm so confused I came here today to find out when I'll be able to pay for my tickets but found no answers. Instead I find my brothers and sisters locked in debates I'm not sure I want to get into. I know most of you and all of the LLC so I'm kind of baffled about this behavior. I see alot of pointing out problems without solutions being offered. How to make the invite process fair has been an issue for the LLC since the second one. They have always tried to make sure that the people who are mysterians can come back home while trying to make room for newcomers. This method although while not perfect is very efficient I thought. From what I've seen its rather fair. I know people who didn't get invites but most of them didn't even bother filling the app out completely. I know a person who has had personal issues with members of the LLC who still got a ticket because they are involved. If there had been exclusion going on for personal reasons this person probably would not have gotten an invite. But this person is invloved and a positive force in our community which seems must have been the basis of thier decision making.
So here's my problem, I can't pay for my freaking ticket so I can go home this summer. My solution: even if they don't get the website back up I'll be there in July with 110 in my hand happy to be home. Please people find a positive resolution to the issues you have and quit creating negative space around the most positive/life-changing event that I've ever been to.

Wed, April 16, 2008 - 7:19 AMaw, danny, that is so sweet. thank you for bringing the oneness conversation back in.
i'm so looking for a SOULution myself...i'm still in the unknown about whether i'll be able to go even though i was given invites, but haven't yet paid. i'm just seeing it as letting the universe make the decision whether it's best for me to go or not. if i'm supposed to be there, it'll happen.
if i DO get to go, i'm looking forward to spending time with you and the extended family. it's been AWHILE.
much love. xoxoxox

Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 8:24 AMI emailed that address, Unga, and got this message:
Your mail to 'Invites' with the subject
We got approved and need to pay!!
Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.
The reason it is being held:
Post by non-member to a members-only list
Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive notification of the moderator's decision.
So what I'm reading is it didn't get sent back, but somebody will read it, at some point... -

Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 9:01 AMthat is what I think also.
This way they have a chance to field each request and not allow them into the gate until they check them against the list.

Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 2:11 PMI submitted all the above information and received the same "bounce" Email!
This is begining to really bother me.
I'm new to this thing you all call Transformus, and from the way things have been going and they way people are always at each other on the lists (Transforma Digest) and things....It's terrible!
I really wanted to be able to have the awesome time at Transformus like my friends who have been previous years said I would have, but from the looks of things that are going down....I'm not so sure about it.
When I first visited the Transformus website and read all the information I was really excited to see such a Event happening that I could really relate to. I love Art, People, Nature, and all that good stuff. So I was really really really determined to go! Now things are all out of wack, I can't pay for my tickets/invites that I was approved for, Theme Camp registration is still unknown, and people are at one another all the time! This is certainly not what I was expecting!
I'm sure it is a huge let down for many others. Including those who have been to Transformus and experienced some of the best times in their lives! Also those who have been to several if not all of the Events in the past and were not approved this year! (That really sucks!)
When I was approved for my invites I was totally excitied, now not so much.
I just wish things would get straightened out and everyone could get along. -

Re: Blah blah blah
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 7:40 AMKelly,
Try the Transformus website today.
As far as your initial reactions to the Transformus community [DRINK!] my response is that this is not the event. This is the invite panic that has always preceded the event for the last 2 years. Except this time, the people who are involved are more likely to get their invites, our resident whinger Lars's math is right the fuck out the window now. Statistics doesn't have an answer for how many of the newbies, who signed up for invites are not paying attention to the ensuing events, and will not re-submit their contact info by the 30th. Then the invites that are not paid for by the 5th will go into the second round and many people (probably including Lars) will get invites, everyone will go to the Mountain, and have a wonderful wonderful Transformus. I wouldn't be surprised to see Touch Samadi, PEX, Whiskey and Whores, Cape Sphere, and all the other camps that were talking about not having invites on the Mountain come July.
Most burners are positive people, and regardless of who is and who isn't there, they will welcome you with open arms, become your friends, bring the fire, and, of course, the bacon. There are many great plans in store for this year. The DSBs are bringing a whole organic, family raised pig to roast this year. The Firey Bitches are building an art installation, and multiple fire cannons. Philosopherz Stone and Kamp Kreig are holding a Grave on Friday Night. Multiple camps are coming together for a sex toy demonstration or three. There will be plenty of events that you can participate in and make your time on the Mountain fantabulous!
Have patience,
--The FNP -

Thu, April 17, 2008 - 11:32 AMI was on the site last night!
I was soooo happy to see something happening.
I have been watching that site and waiting since it crashed!
I won't be one of those newbies who isn't paying attention and not have submitted their info by the deadline....
I'M ON IT!!
I'm sooo freaking excited!!!

Re: Blah blah blah
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 2:23 PM"Lars's math is right the fuck out the window now. Statistics doesn't have an answer for how many of the newbies, who signed up for invites are not paying attention to the ensuing events, and will not re-submit their contact info by the 30th."
I agree. It is out the window now. Its very different. This is new barrier which will weed out a lot of "wishy-washy" requests. Its enough to outweigh any statistical deviation by several orders of magnitude. Its just one more barrier aside from the ticket payment system, which I assumed would wash out all the "extra" requests people may or may not have made to improve their odds, people who weren't sure if they could go, etc. We're getting closer and closer to the real number. And this only helps to facilitate that
Although my math is still valid after all of that change happens, i.e. it'll come back in the window again after it was thrown out... since the second round will be calculated EXACTLY the same way, so people with a +1 will have the same advantage over those who don't in the second round as they did in the first. Its small, but real. Everyone has a better chance now, but everyone has a slightly DIFFERENT better chance. If that makes sense.
And I agree, I'll probably get a ticket. Its a matter of how and when. I wish there were some way that I could stress that this isn't sour grapes. Even with ticket in hand I'd be upset with this if only on the basis of bad math, let alone the unfairness that ACTUALLY impacted several people.
Anyway, you rock FNP. You've kept your head screwed on right this whole time.

Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 2:48 PMIf they don't know who we are, how do they know if someone put in more than one request?
Why do they even need this information? Are they seriously going through the information by HAND and emailing everyone back? What exactly is the process? Why aren't they telling us?
Do they not realize that a lot of people do not even know if they were approved or not? Is everybody supposed to email them this information just to find out if they were approved or rejected?
If as I suspect, there were many more requests made than actual people who want to go, how will the second round work if they have no idea who we are? Does everyone have to email them again?
Why is this information buried in the transforma list, and not on the website under invites?
This is very confusing.

Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 2:54 PMAlso, I am on the tranforma list and never saw that email posted. I don't know how I would have missed it...where and when was it posted? To the actual list? Or just to the invite-tranforma list? That doesn't make sense.
Lars,
Didnt' the original form we filled out have a place for our name, so they would know who we are? I assumed that's why they were asking for it - to pair our name with email address to confirm it's really us?
I still don't think they said how they are distrbuting additional tickets, just that it will go back into a "pool." -

Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 3:29 PMI never seen the email posted either, although I did send my information.....
-
Re: Blah blah blah
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 5:03 PMWhats in a name? :)
To repeat. This is what they're asking for:
Your full names
Snail mail address including zip code
email address you want e-invite codes sent to
any names you used on your request...first, nicknames, or playa names
Submit ID # (if you have it?)
Phone number
The key here is "any names you used on your request, first, nicknames, or playa names"
You can use any name you want on your request. You could use multiple unverifiable names. And even if you used the same name on all your requests, I'm sure that there are people out there who actually have the same name by chance. For these reasons they cant look for duplicates, because duplicate names could be innocuous, and because most people who cheat would use unique names for each request there really isn't much point.
Then there is the fact that they cant even get a php script working to do a simple database query and display it. How are they going to automate the system of checking every name against every other name if they cant do something that simple?
There were 1260 requests. You have to check each one against every other one, so thats 1260*1259 = 1,586,340 comparisons... but checking my name with another name is the same as checking that name with my name, so its really half as many comparisons or (1260*1259)/2 = 793,170. If it takes one person 1 second to check two names (highly unlikely they can do it that fast and keep track of what they're doing, it'll take 220 hours which is 27 eight hour work days full time. And aside from the real time it would take being much more than 1 second, we've already established that there is no point in trying to match the names, since you can apply as many times as you like with as many names as you like and some people have the same name by chance who cant be punished for it. And even if they are, which one do you punish? Both? For what? Coincidence? So there is no point in even checking. And if you did check, you still wouldn't have any way to match the multiple accounts people made under different names because they share NOTHING in common.
Why do we even need to do ANYTHING to "facilitate this process"??? We gave them all the info they needed already. Remember, this was going to work with the info they already have, and we'd be able to go pay and they'd email us the invites, without us providing any more information than they already have. All we had to do was login and make the actual payment and they'd email us the code we need to get in.
Why are they asking for an email address when they already have our email address? I got an email from transformus when I signed up to the invite system. They know my email already... why do they want it again? Probably because its just about the only unique thing they have to look people up with. I.E. if they cant match the names for some reason, they can always match that. Plus no 2 people would have the same email address, so people with the same name wouldn't be confused with each other. Why they're asking for the submit ID is beyond me, they clearly have that information already, and email is enough to uniquely identify our request in the database and find it. And the other stuff? Are they mailing me something? Am I getting a phone call? HUH?
So how do you know if I submitted 10 names and 10 emails? I can pretend to be any one of those 10 names and email them my info and get my ticket info emailed to one of those 10 emails. The way the system worked all you had to do was PICK a name and an email and a password. Any other information or lack thereof had no bearing on if you could be approved by the random lotto or not.
All that is happening is they're using what we send them to dig us out of the database (apparently by hand) to see if we're approved, then give us a way to pay somehow by email, then email us a code we have to present at the gate.
Why cant I use multiple email addresses and enter once with my playa name, and once with my first name, and once with my full name, and once with another playa name, and once with a nickname, once with my dog's name, etc etc.
"I assumed that's why they were asking for it - to pair our name with email address to confirm it's really us? "
So if I put the name "Jomama" and the email address "account.I.Just.made@google.com" and send it to them, and it matches something in the request database, that somehow proves I am who I say I am? What? I dont even know what logic you're basing that on...
How does that prove that I'm not also "sukkafoo" with the email address "another.account.I.made.right.after.that.one@google.com"? It doesn't.
If I tried to send them your name and your email it wouldn't work because I don't know what information you submitted with your request. However, there is nothing stopping me from submitting information from any of the multiple requests I made (theoretically speaking of course, I didnt actually cheat, but lets assume I did). All it proves is that I made that invite request, not that I didn't make more than one!!!
What if someone with a different tribe name starts arguing this same point with you suddenly out of nowhere? It couldn't possibly be me, with another name on another tribe account tied to another email right? How could anybody do that??? (aside from just doing it of course) -
-
Re: Blah blah blah
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 4:26 AMI'm guessing they have a list of names of the people who were approved but haven't paid, but don't have the full contact information. That is provided they do have a list of names of people and whether they were approved and paid, approved and haven't paid or were denied. They may not have maintained all the other contact information. The people who paid via pay pal will be easy to verify. Yes, people could still exploit the system, but only if they had exploited it when they originally registered. That is provided they do have a list of names.
And as far as the comparisons go, it only takes that many comparisons if you perform an exhaustive search. All you have to do is order the list, alphabetically would probably be easiest, and doing the comparisons becomes very easy. Or they could just plug all the names they get into one data file and put all the other names from the old website in another data file and use some very basic code to compare the two. It won't be fast, but it would be a small fraction of 220 hours.
Of course, I paid for my tickets, yet haven't recieved an email... so I don't know what the hell is going on. The ticket issues aren't really the big issues in my mind though. I recently re-subscribed to the transforma list and it looks like the bigger issues of accountancy and transparency are starting to be addressed. Work is being done, it just isn't all focused on the tickets. A lot of it seems to be focused on addressing the other concerns about the way the org was run. That and argueing of course. -
-
Re: Blah blah blah
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 4:35 AMCorrection: I have recieved my ticket codes. I forgot while Pay Pal knows I changed email addresses and sends me any mail through them to my new address, the account is still registered as an old address which is what Transformus would have on record. I checked the old account and my ticket codes were there.
Why doesn't tribe allow posts to be editted? -
-
Re: Blah blah blah
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 7:13 AMYou can go and ask why tribe wont let you do this or that, and they often come back with some weird rationalization you never expected. There is a tribe for making suggestions... its called tribe brainstorm I think.
Yes, alphabetizing or comparing lists or whatever are all automated processes, if you can do that you can just check them automatically. I was referring to how horrible it would be to do this by hand with zero automation. And like I said, there isnt much point in it since cheaters would use different names.
They're doing this by hand now, which is why I have to wait around for them to match my new request up with my old request and email me what I already know, that I wasn't approved. I do need to do this though if I want to be in the second round.
It is apparent (and the website has announced) that they have the email addresses of the people who paid, which is why you have your NEW ticket code. Clearly they got this from paypal receipts
They do NOT have the email addresses, account login/password, and a bunch of other information for people who have not paid or are not approved. They simply have the name, if it was a +1 or not, and if it was approved or not. Thats it (or at least they say so).
So this is insecure. My name is right here on this page, and although I've already made a login, someone else can go in and put my name, and the people who are sorting through this mess will be scratching their heads wondering which email address is really me.
This is absurd. Although it does explain why it took so long to get the ticket system up, they lost the data and never admitted it.
I wonder why it took a month to figure out "ok, we have everyone send us their name and an email address they want to be contacted at, and then we can go and look for their name in the database and re-enter the information we lost". ?!?!?

Re: Blah blah blah
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 7:23 AMdid you get ticket codes after you paid? i never got to pay :[
so, i'm curious...what if this was done so that now everyone would be randomly picked, not picked based on any info that was put in the application that everyone was in upset over?
if so, then i'm happy. i prefer fairness over my own personal content, if it's for the good of the community at large.
lars, i understand your frustration and upset, and it's good that the people who put this together know that the community is in upset. let's attempt to create a bigger story to live in, now, unless you'd prefer to continue to be in upset and make yourself ill in turn. your health and wellness DEPENDS on your ability to create a bigger story. things ARE the way they are. there's no changing them. you can either decide you don't want to support this event or get on and continue creating community.
my question is...now that all of the feathers have been blown all over, how is it going to be IF we all go? is all of this stuffiness still going to be in the air? if so, i'm not crazy about the potential dynamics of the burn. frankly, like the previous poster said, it doesn't sound too appetizing to me.
so let's get together and create peacefulness and support amongst ourselves. let's live in a bigger story, shall we?
much love. -

Re: Blah blah blah
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 3:08 PMYou'll get to pay as soon as someone matches your name with your request, sees that you were approved, and emails you a link to pay with. No worries. You don't even have to check the site anymore now that you've re-registered, they'll email you directly! Very easy! Just a waiting game is all.
"so, i'm curious...what if this was done so that now everyone would be randomly picked, not picked based on any info that was put in the application that everyone was in upset over? "
I dont think the application was ever even read by anyone, much less used to pick anyone or not. This was done because they lost our email addresses, and I haven't heard a reason why yet. Whatever... this is the situation they're in. The people who were approved or not has not changed. I.E. if you saw you were approved on the site before (paid or not) you will still be approved now. And vice versa.
"things ARE the way they are. there's no changing them. you can either decide you don't want to support this event or get on and continue creating community. "
There is this deep rooted assumption that everything I do is based on emotions. I see what I'm doing as helping to support this event and change it for the better. It is because I support this event (more specifically its participants) that I want to bring about change. If I didn't care, I wouldn't bother. Nothing I am saying changes anything for me personally, and in fact puts me at great risk of personal attacks. I'm not doing this for myself.
You cant tell my tone or inflection from reading my text, so I am totally bewildered by the response I get. I tried to use the most objective tool possible (as far from emotion as you can get), namely MATH to make my point. Hoping that people would dissociate their perceptions of my emotion from whats ACTUALLY HAPPENING. Yet still (almost) nobody addresses what I said, just starts telling me what my emotions are (as if they know and I dont?!?!?!?). I don't see that as productive at all. I do think that pointing out whats actually happening, and stating my opinions on what should change is productive.
They're not doing a random lotto next year. I hope that I have some small responsibility for that CHANGE. :) So change can happen. Look at the change mustang brought about. So, obviously, things don't always stay the way they are.
I appreciate your supportive message. I agree that being upset is not useful, and the only thing frustrating me right now is people accusing me of being motivated by being upset or a downright misanthrope! :)
"my question is...now that all of the feathers have been blown all over, how is it going to be IF we all go? is all of this stuffiness still going to be in the air? if so, i'm not crazy about the potential dynamics of the burn. frankly, like the previous poster said, it doesn't sound too appetizing to me."
My guess is that the event will be just fine. In fact, by comparison, it will seem that much better considering it will be compared with some of the low expectations that people have expressed so far.

Re: Blah blah blah
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 6:27 PMEmail the ticket people. If you paid you should have gotten the email long ago, since they already had your email address from the paypal info and they say on the website that they sent all of the "paid" people their new gate codes before they even started accepting people re-registering who haven't paid yet or were rejected.
They found me in the database and emailed me yesterday, so they're making some progress on matching people. This shouldn't affect you if you already paid though.
